I was going to take it easy today and post pictures of me making faces at you. But I just got off the phone with Duck. I just hit the submit button on the all important benefits enrollment for 2011.
Even though I knew what we were going to choose, it is always a stressful process for me to figure these things out.
Health insurance - that's the easy one. Health insurance for people with chronic illness... hmmm... yeah, of course we picked a PPO with the lowest deductible and highest percentage of coverage. We're not worrying about in/out of network doctors. We're seeing our doctors, when we need them. There is no question on that one.
But then there's dental insurance. Vision care. Flex spending accounts. Supplemental life insurance. Supplemental disability.
What do you pick? How do you decide? We picked what we thought was best... and it ended up being exactly the same as 2010. I really knew this is what would happen, but we still had to go through the exercise.
I just want to say, however, that there is one major victory in the fairly minor changes to our plan coverage in 2011 - elimination of the lifetime benefit cap. I am ecstatic about that one. I never thought it would be something I had to worry about - it's literally millions of dollars - but now it's gone. And there is never a need to fear that chronic illness will cause us to run out of insurance.
I am happy today. I feel accomplished and that safety net for next year is now in place. Everything will be OK.
